大手筋商店街は東側の桃山御陵前・伏見桃山駅と西側の大手筋電停に挟まれていた。竹田街道の南行車線には余裕が無かった為,塩小路高倉~八条口間と同様に,大手筋以南では南行車は専ら軌道敷を走行した。現在の「バスの駅」付近から京都駅行9系統863号を見ているが,当時の路線バスは全て市電大手筋(現・西大手筋)で曲がり,交差点を直進する系統は無かった。(1969.4)
